Welcome to First Baptist Church. Whether you are new to the area, looking for a church home, or just curious about who we are, we are glad you’re here. We are a community of believers dedicated to loving God, loving our neighbors, and serving the city of Valparaiso.

Our Story

Serving Porter County Since 1837

First Baptist Church is not just a place of worship; we are a testament to the enduring faith of this community.

Our roots go back to the very founding of Porter County. On June 10, 1837, the church was organized by Elder Alpheus French with just twelve charter members. As one of the first religious organizations in the region, we have stood as a pillar of the community through nearly two centuries of history.

From our early days meeting in groves and small frames to our current home on Campbell Street, our building may have changed, but our foundation remains the same: the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are proud of our heritage, but we are even more excited about our future.

Our Mission

We exist to introduce people to Jesus Christ, to help them grow to be more like Him, and then to reproduce the process in others. We seek to do this through:

Worship: Gathering together to praise God through scripture, music, and prayer.
Discipleship: Growing deeper in our understanding of the Bible and our walk with Christ.
Fellowship: Building a supportive, intergenerational family where everyone belongs.
Service: extending the love of Christ beyond our four walls to meet the needs of Valparaiso and the world.

What We Believe

We are a Bible-believing church that holds to the historic truths of the Christian faith.

** The Bible:** We believe the Scriptures are the inspired Word of God and our final authority for faith and practice.
** God:** We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
** Jesus Christ:** We believe in the deity of Jesus, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His death on the cross for our sins, and His bodily resurrection.
** Salvation:** We believe that salvation is a free gift of God, received by personal faith in Jesus Christ alone.
