AMF International was founded in 1887 as an outreach to Jewish immigrants to Chicago. Over the years the work expanded; AMFI workers currently serve in Israel, France, the Netherlands, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Wes Taber joined AMFI’s Internship Program in November 1975, which included Jewish studies at Moody Bible Institute. He and Lori Currie were married in May 1976. Their first field assignment from 1976-1980 focused on Jewish evangelism and discipleship in Miami/Miami Beach. There the Lord blessed them with a son, Joshua (September 1977), and a daughter, Jennifer (September 1979).
In September 1980, the family moved to Jerusalem, Israel, to work with the indigenous church. Both Wes and Lori learned Modern Hebrew; Wes also studied at the Hebrew University. The family expanded to five with the arrival of Kathryn Shoshana in March 1982.
Returning to the States in June 1982, the Tabers took up residence at AMFI’s Headquarters in Chicago, where Wes became Chicago Area Director and took courses at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Their daughter, Christine, arrived in August 1984, bringing the number of Taber children to four.
Wes and Lori have the privilege of serving in leadership of AMF International, a long-established ministry to Jewish people that is entering a new chapter of ministry expansion. Immanuel Ministries International is uniting under the leadership of AMFI. The new work will be known as Life in Messiah International. One benefit will be the development of new ministry and a potential training center in Brooklyn, NY, home to the largest Jewish community outside Israel. Wes and Lori have the responsibility of directing Life in Messiah’s work in Israel, Asia, Europe, and North America.
