New Tribes Mission
In July 1942, New Tribes Mission started as an organization. New Tribes has since gone into many countries and reached many tribal groups. The mission has never lost its purpose of assisting the local church through the mobilizing, equipping, and coordinating of missionaries to evangelize unreached people groups, translate the Scriptures, and see indigenous New Testament churches established that glorify God.
Nathan Whatley is the son of Bonard and May Whatley, who were New Tribes missionaries working with the Lauje tribe in Indonesia. He went to New Tribes Institute in Jackson, Michigan. He then attended Pensacola Christian College in Florida. Nathan then worked for 3 years in Indiana where he started attending First Baptist Church and became an active member.
In 2002, Nathan started with New Tribes training in Durham, Ontario. The purpose of the training was to disciple the trainee in personal application of Biblical truth and in cross-cultural church planning skills. He then attended New Tribes Language Institute in Roach, Missouri. The focus of this phase of the training was language, culture, and other skills necessary for cross-cultural ministry.
Currently, Nathan is working at the US Headquarters for New Tribes Mission in Sanford, Florida. He is working as a computer programmer on the New Tribes Mission Accounting and Administration System. This application does all the accounting and many other functions necessary to keep the mission running.
Pray for Nathan as he works in that ministry. Also, pray for him to have a passion to seek God and His will in this and any other ministry opportunities that God gives him.
First Baptist has supported Nathan since May 2002.
