Mark and Debbie Blosser have been working with Trans World Radio since 1979, spending the first 12 ½ years on the island of Guam, then moving to Sri Lanka for eight years, and now they have been in the country of Swaziland since August of 2000. Swaziland is located in southern Africa bordering the countries of South Africa and Mozambique.
From Swaziland, they are helping to broadcast the Good News of Jesus Christ to Sub-Sahara Africa by shortwave and medium wave radio in 26 languages. Mark is serving as Station Director for TWR’s Swaziland station and also does antenna construction and repair wherever he is needed in Africa. He has traveled to Malawi and Benin to do antenna work and has had the privilege of meeting some of their listeners on these trips. God is using the ministry of TWR to reach many people in Africa with the Gospel. Just recently, he met with a few of the listeners in the neighboring country of Mozambique. Fourteen listener groups were represented, and they only have three wind-up radios to share among the groups. Someone carries the radios from group to group so they can listen. Therefore, they can’t hear all the programs, but they are thankful for the ones they can hear, and they are being nourished in their faith. Many in the groups can’t afford to own a radio of their own, so the radios are shared.
Swaziland has a very high rate of HIV/AIDS, and TWR’s local FM network, Voice of the Church (VOC), is reaching the people with the hope they can find Jesus. Pray for a new program, called Be Faithful that will soon begin airing over VOC to teach people how to avoid HIV/AIDS and to give them hope if they have already contracted the disease. Pray for a change of heart and behavior for the people of Africa as they listen to Trans World Radio.
Mark and Debbie have two children. Their daughter, Rhonda, is married to Scott Michael, and they live in Bloomington, Indiana, where Scott is attending graduate school to earn his doctorate in Astrophysics. Their son, Peter, is in his senior year at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, where he is majoring in Computer Science Engineering.
The Blossers have been supported by First Baptist Church since 1984.
